Malapi Lodge, Sukau
Let the animals come to you in Sukau, an area that offers an amazing opportunity to see wildlife from the comfort of a long boat rather than trekking through thick jungle.
The Kinabatangan River is the key to Sukau's success. A large number of creatures come down to visit the river regularly, and just gently cruising along the river for a few hours at a time you can see a huge diversity of animals. The area around Sukau is also protected, which has allowed the wildlife to flourish. Orang-utan, pigmy elephants, pythons, crocodiles, macaques (several different types), proboscis monkeys, hornbills, king fisher's and many other beautiful creatures are often seen here.
Melapi Lodge offers native-style, twin-share cabins that are designed to blend in with the rainforest surroundings. There is a delightful daily chorus of sounds made by birds, monkeys, insects and other wild animals that can only be heard in environments such as these. There is also a well laid out, spacious dining area and bar where you can compare viewing notes over a cold drink.
