The Penan lead the rarest of lifestyles in today's world and have managed to hold on to their nomadic, hunting-gathering ways. DAY 03:LONG SABAI/HUNTING TRIP & JUNGLE SURVIVAL
The Penan of Sarawak, Malaysia are unique, quite different from their indigenous neighbours the Kelabit, Kayan, Iban, and Kenyan. While these groups changed their lifestyles in the favour of permanent settlements and agricultural practices, the Penan have traditionally managed to hold on to their nomadic, hunting-gathering ways of life. As national development in Malaysia approaches the twenty-first century, however, these ways are rapidly changing. We will follow the Penan hunting, fishing and collecting jungle products for food and medication. Packed lunch will be provided with simple wrapped rice in leaves with vegetables or mushroom. If we are lucky maybe deer meat too.
Depending on weather probably a night walk in search of nocturnal forest life. Overnight at Long Sabai Penan Village.

After breakfast depart by long boat cruise downstream to the boat station. Continue trekking to Long Lellang the Kelabit tribe village. Long Lellang is a small village in the south of the Kelabit Highlands of Sarawak. The Kelabits are one of the smaller tribes in Malaysia, numbering only about 5000, and based around Bario. Whilst the village is Kelabit, many of the inhabitants are Penan, a semi-nomadic tribe based in the same area. All of the other villages close to Long Lellang are Penan.
