new_diving1.jpgThere are few nicer places in the world to learn to dive than the tropical islands of Northeast Borneo. The Sulu-Sulawesi Sea is blessed with outstandingly beautiful, natural and untouched islands. Here the waters really are crystal clear, the sand really is pure white and the coral reefs quite literally are amongst the healthiest in world and habour the most abundant and diverse ecosystems to be found anywhere. They are for lack of a better word, breathtaking.

new_diving2.jpgYour PADI Open Water Course (orJunior Open Water Course for ages 10-15), the standard for recreational diving throughout the world, will be taught over a 4 day period. The course covers theoretical and practical aspects and provides certification for all you need to know to become a recreational diver. After the course there is also plenty of time to practise your newly acquired skills or to do the PADI Advanced Open Water Course, a simple 2 dive addition which qualifies you to go deeper than 18 meters.

You will be staying on one of the one island, one resort destinations on either Mataking, Lankayan or Kapalai, depending on your preferences. All of these locations offer extremely comfortable accommodation with great service and privacy, the ultimate relaxation!

Accommodation

The resorts on Mataking, Lankayan and Kapalai all share one thing in common; they are a single resort on a single island. All meals are informally served at a central open building, which boast an amazingly beautiful open-air wooden terrace surrounded by swaying casuarinas.

Lankayan & Mataking
new_lankayan.jpgLanyakan and Mataking are both idyllic tranquil 'getaway islands', simple but stylish wooden surroundings are complemented by beautiful nature, a small central forest, fringed by silica sand beaches and beautiful sloping tropical reefs. There is an abundance of small critters of unbelievable shapes and sizes to be found all over the house reefs on these islands and at Lankayan between the months of April and May whaleshark sightings are very common, indeed during these months it is one of the best places in the world to view these gentle giants.

Kapalai
new_kapalai.jpgKapalai is similar to the Mataking and Lankayan in its tranquillity however rather than being a resort fringed with white beaches and vegetation, it is a resort built on stilts. At low tide a small sand spit is revealed however at high tide everywhere you walk you can see the reef and fish swimming beneath. Kapalai is the closest neighbour to the legendary Sipadan, only 10 minutes by speedboat. Its house reefs are famed by macro photographers worldwide, and offer great opportunities to photograph some rare and bizarre creatures.
